The Alberta Blue Cross Built Together grant program opens May 16, providing funds up to $50,000 for healthy living infrastructure projects across Alberta.

Alberta Blue Cross is bringing back its popular Built Together grant program for 2022 to help promote active living and wellness in communities across Alberta.

Community leagues, school councils, municipalities and other non-profits across Alberta are invited to apply for the Built Together program. Since it’s introduction nine years ago, the program has funded a wide variety of projects including outdoor gyms, sports courts, a bike skills park, playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor rinks and more.

“Our Built Together program is intended to help Albertans build spaces for active living in their communities,” says Brian Geislinger, vice-president of Corporate Communications at Alberta Blue Cross®. “We know that publicly accessible infrastructure is key to supporting Albertans’ wellness, and this program is one of the ways that Alberta Blue Cross has stepped up as a partner in wellness to Albertans.”

Grant recipients will receive a one-time $50,000 grant for eligible projects. This year, a total of five grants will be disbursed for projects in one of each of the following areas: an Indigenous community, a rural community, Edmonton, Calgary and a secondary city.

Since the program started in 2013, it has provided funding support of $1.85 million to 38 projects across the province. The program was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic.
