In 1948, 100 per cent of Alberta Blue Cross® business was related to hospitalization benefits. Today, that figure is less than 1 per cent, with the following 12 benefit lines offered:

  • prescription drugs,
  • extended health (such as preferred hospital accommodation, ambulance and home nursing),
  • dental,
  • vision,
  • travel,
  • employee assistance programs,
  • spending accounts,
  • expatriate coverage for international employees,
  • life insurance*,

Alberta Blue Cross® administers programs on behalf of the provincial, territorial and federal governments such as

  • Alberta Health (Coverage for Seniors, Non-Group Coverage, Optical Assistance for Seniors);
  • Alberta Human Services;
  • Government of the Northwest Territories; and
  • Veterans Affairs Canada.

Alberta Blue Cross® provides personal health plans for Albertans of all ages who are self-employed or without employer-sponsored health benefits.
