In 1948, 100 per cent of Alberta Blue Cross® business was related to hospitalization benefits. Today, that figure is less than 1 per cent, with the following 12 benefit lines offered:
- prescription drugs,
- extended health (such as preferred hospital accommodation, ambulance, paramedical services and home nursing),
- dental,
- vision,
- travel,
- employee assistance programs,
- spending accounts,
- expatriate coverage for international employees,
- life insurance*,
- disability insurance*,
- Critical Illness*,
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment*.

Alberta Blue Cross® administers programs on behalf of the provincial, territorial and federal governments such as
- Alberta Health (Coverage for Seniors, Non-Group Coverage, Optical Assistance for Seniors);
- Alberta Human Services;
- Government of the Northwest Territories; and
- Veterans Affairs Canada.
Alberta Blue Cross® provides personal health plans for Albertans of all ages who are self-employed or without employer-sponsored health benefits.
