Alberta Blue Cross® freezes personal plan prices for 12 months

By July 16, 2025No Comments

To help ease the financial burden for our fellow Albertans, there will be no monthly pricing changes to our personal benefit plans based on this year’s review. Price increases will be frozen until June 30, 2026.

Relief from rising costs

With rising prices affecting nearly every aspect of life—including the cost of delivering health care services—Alberta Blue Cross® understands the financial pressures many are facing. To make sure plans remain fair and sustainable, plan pricing is reviewed annually. This year, we decided there will be no monthly pricing changes for the next 12 months to help provide stability and support when it’s needed most.

This reflects our ongoing commitment to protect access to the health benefits Albertans rely on. While a price freeze isn’t always possible, we continuously look for ways to help make health care more affordable and provide peace of mind. This year, we are in a position to hold rates steady.

“As a homegrown organization, Alberta Blue Cross® is about putting Albertans first. In uncertain times, people are looking for stability and support. That’s why we are freezing plan prices until June 30, 2026. While many providers are raising premiums due to market forces, we are doing what we can to help protect access to care and ease some of the financial challenges our members may be experiencing.”

Age-based pricing is still in effect

Since health needs tend to grow with age, our plans use age brackets to keep pricing fair. A small number of members (approximately 2%) who move up an age bracket, which typically happens once in 5-10 years depending on the plan, will still see an adjustment to their rate. However, because there’s no monthly price increase this year, the change will be smaller. Plan members who are moving into a new age bracket will be notified of any changes in advance.

Benefit plan enhancements are still in full swing

A price freeze doesn’t mean things are standing still at Alberta Blue Cross®. Instead, we’re focused on giving more. We will continue to invest in our personal plan offerings to better support our members’ overall wellbeing. As of July 1, plan members have access to new features like 24/7 access to health care through Virtual Care, additional benefits, like occupational therapy or Flight Delay Service, all at no extra cost.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve our plans and offer more value. I’m pleased to share that members can expect exciting plan enhancements this year. The upgrades focus on supporting overall wellbeing, providing practical supports and peace of mind, so our members can prioritize their health without having to compromise on budget.”
